Jacob Cake: The taste of a Postojna legend

9. July, 2026|Turizem Postojna

Jacob Cake draws its inspiration from the story of the brave Shepherd Jacob, who defeated the dragon through intelligence rather than force. The cake brings together the flavours of the Postojna region, weaving them into a sweet story of its own.

A round cake displayed on a white cake stand, with one slice served separately on a plate. The cake reveals several distinct layers: a light brown base, a lighter cream layer, a thin red fruit layer, and a smooth pale topping. It is decorated with small green cream swirls, pieces of fruit, and nuts, while delicate slices of fruit cascade elegantly around the edge.

At its heart are locally sourced ingredients. Raspberries, pears, and walnuts create a harmonious blend that reflects the landscape where Jacob once tended his sheep. Layers of fruit are nestled within a smooth cottage cheese cream, while local honey provides its natural sweetness.

The cake is topped with slices of Williams pear soaked in raspberry juice and toasted walnuts, adding a delightful crunch. A playful finishing touch is a layer of green “dragon skin”, which ties the dessert to the legend that inspired it.

You can taste Jacob Cake at Siesta Café in the centre of Postojna.
