Step into a wonderfully wild forest adventure

If your family enjoys combining outdoor activity, exploration, and a touch of fairytale magic, the Shepherd Jacob Trail is the perfect choice for your next outing. This is no ordinary walk. From the very first steps, you’re welcomed into a natural adventure where culture and nature come together in a playful world designed for children to learn through exploration. The legend of Shepherd Jakob inspires both children and adults to discover more, with eleven themed stops inviting you to pause, identify different tree species, meet the forest’s inhabitants, uncover the secrets of Postojna Cave, and enjoy a real forest playground.

A scenic viewpoint in Šmihel pod Nanosom features a wooden viewing frame overlooking the village nestled within the green Karst landscape.

Stop for a sweet break in the heart of Postojna

After your adventure comes everyone’s favourite part of the day: a stop in the centre of Postojna for a slice of Jacob Cake at Siesta Café. It’s the perfect reward for young explorers and a well-earned treat for parents. Raspberries, pears, toasted walnuts, and local honey come together in a delicious combination that makes for a fittingly sweet ending to Jakob’s story.

The cake reveals several distinct layers: a light brown base, a lighter cream layer, a thin red fruit layer, and a smooth pale topping. It is decorated with small green cream swirls, pieces of fruit, and nuts, while delicate slices of fruit cascade elegantly around the edge.

One more carefree play break for the perfect end to the day

Round off your day with a walk to Postojna Town Park, where children can burn off the last of their energy on the playground, climbing frames, and swings, while you visit the Faces of Our History exhibition or simply relax on a park bench.
