A hike for little and big adventurers

On a beautiful sunny day, there’s no better excuse to get the whole family outdoors than a hike to Pečna Reber. It’s one of the easiest and most rewarding walks in the Postojna region. The trail begins in the town and climbs gently through the forest at a comfortable pace, making it suitable for everyone: children, parents, and even grandparents. The terrain is safe and easy, with just enough uphill to make the outing feel like an adventure without being too demanding. Along the way, there are plenty of natural features to discover, so children experience the walk as an exploration rather than just a hike.

The forests of Pečna Reber are a classic example of the karst landscape and home to a wide variety of wildlife, including roe deer, red deer, foxes, many bird species, and even the lynx, which is rarely seen by people. You probably won’t spot one, but children quickly sense they’re in a “real forest”, and that alone makes the adventure even more exciting.

The photograph shows a group of people walking along a wide gravel forest path on a sunny day. The hikers, including adults and a small child, are walking away from the camera, surrounded by dense green trees and vegetation. In the foreground, a red and white hiking trail marker is visible on a tree, indicating a marked walking route through the forest. The scene conveys a peaceful atmosphere and the enjoyment of spending time outdoors in nature.

At the top, you’ll be welcomed by Mladika Hut. Here, stunning views stretch across the Postojna region towards the Nanos Plateau, while the area around the hut is perfect for resting and enjoying a meal. The hut serves homemade dishes prepared from local ingredients, making it an ideal place to stop for lunch and a longer break. Afterwards, there’s plenty of space for children to run around the meadow, explore the nearby woodland, or enjoy the playground.
