Sovič Recreational Walking Trail

The Sovič Recreational Trail is located on the hill of the same name overlooking the town of Postojna. This easy circular walk is just a short distance from the town centre, making it the perfect escape into nature. The circular trail begins at Čukovca, behind Sovič Hill, and leads across the varied landscape of Poljane to Veliki Otok. The first section follows a well-maintained gravel path that winds through trees and dense woodland.

After around two kilometres, you’ll reach a viewpoint above the village of Veliki Otok, just above the Church of St Catherine. Sweeping views open across the Pivka Basin, framed by the surrounding karst plateaus.

The trail then descends into Veliki Otok before following the main road towards Postojna Cave. Cross the bridge over the Pivka River and continue along the linden tree avenue until you reach the first left turn, which leads back to the starting point at Čukovca.
