The hike begins at the parking area in Razdrto and follows a paved road that crosses the motorway via a bridge before reaching a junction with hiking signposts. Nearby, you’ll find a rest area with a drinking fountain where you can fill your bottle with fresh spring water from beneath Nanos. Turn left onto the gravel road and soon reach a turn-off to the right, where a footpath towards Nanos begins. The trail first climbs across a grassy slope before entering the forest and reaching a junction after a few minutes.
Continue right onto the steep trail, which climbs steadily before crossing a scree slope and ascending more sharply. Further on, you will encounter several sections equipped with steel cables and other safety aids to assist you over more rugged terrain. Extra caution is required when the ground is wet or icy.
The gradient eventually eases, bringing you to another junction where you have two options. The trail straight ahead leads to Vojko’s Hut via the summit, while the trail to the right bypasses it. Both routes rejoin shortly before the hut and take approximately the same amount of time (around 15 minutes).
- You can return to the valley via the same route or descend along the gentler trail to create an enjoyable circular hike.
- Good hiking footwear and hiking poles are recommended. Strong bora wind is common on Nanos, so be sure to pack a windproof jacket and a hat.
- Before setting out, check whether Vojko’s Hut on Mount Nanos is open.
- Mount Nanos is also home to a museum collection of analogue broadcasting equipment, which can be visited by prior arrangement with the Podnanos Association.
