The Scilla Nature Trail in Planina takes its name from the meadow squill (Scilla litardierei), an endangered plant typical of karst poljes. In Slovenia, it only grows on the Planina Polje.

Along this easy waymarked trail, informative panels introduce the unique features of the Planina Polje: from the mysteries of Planina Cave to the characteristics of the meadows, the area’s rich plant and animal life as well as the seasonal flooding.

The trail consists of two circular loops:

  • Southern loop: 4.7 km
  • Northern loop: 6.8 km

There are four access points to the trail:

  • Ravbar Tower (Information panel No. 1)
  • Planina (Information panel No. 4)
  • Laze (Information panel No. 19)
  • Grčarevec (Information panel No. 13)

While exploring the Planina Polje, we ask you not to pick the wildflowers. By doing so, you help protect the fragile habitats of the many plant and animal species that are home to this area.

Although this is an easy trail, we recommend wearing appropriate walking or sports footwear.
