Here is everything you need to know for a smooth visit.
Starting in Razdrto, Erasmus’s Cycling Route follows a paved road through Veliko Ubeljsko and Malo Ubeljsko before reaching Strane, the highest village in the Postojna region. Here stands the thickest and, according to local oral tradition, also the oldest yew tree in Slovenia. Legend even has it that Saints Cyril and Methodius once preached beneath its branches.
From Strane, the trail continues along gravel roads through the forests at the foot of Mount Nanos, passing Bukovje and leading to the famous village of Predjama, home to the medieval robber knight Erasmus. Take a break at one of the local restaurants, enjoy a meal, and recharge while admiring the Predjama Castle, Erasmus’ remarkable residence.
The route then continues to Landol, where you can visit the former toll station and weighbridge, before heading towards Šmihel under Nanos. Here, you’ll encounter the sculpture of Jacob the Shepherd and the Church of St George. The ride continues along gravel tracks through meadows and pastures to Brezje under Nanos, before returning through Malo Ubeljsko and Veliko Ubeljsko to Razdrto.
If you arrive in Razdrto by car, parking is available near the local cemetery.
During the summer months, the area around Predjama Castle can become very busy, so extra caution is advised.
