Here is everything you need to know for a smooth visit.
The route begins at the Sustainable Mobility Centre in Postojna. You will soon leave the town behind and head towards Postojna Cave. You can either stop and visit the cave or continue cycling and climb the Sovič Hill even before reaching the Postojna Cave Park.
A gravel road leads to Otok Cave, which is connected to Postojna Cave through an underground network of passages, and then to the main road between Postojna and Predjama. Cross the road carefully and continue along a gravel track. The route then takes you through several villages in the Postojna region: Zagon, Hrašče, Hrenovice, and Landol. This section is mostly flat and follows quiet, low-traffic roads.
A short climb and descent then lead to Predjama, dominated by the magnificent Predjama Castle, with another cave located directly below it. You can make a stop here for some food and drinks at Požar Inn or tackle the ascent to Bukovje and continue towards Belsko. The longest ascent of the route begins there, passing through the villages of Studeno, Strmca, and Lohača before descending to Pivka Cave and Black Cave. Located only a few hundred metres apart, both caves are a part of the Postojna Cave system. The route comes to an end with a diverse final section back to Postojna, passing the pump track before reaching Ljubljanska Street and continuing past Hotel Kras to the starting point.
Praktične informacije
Several parking spaces are available in front of the Sustainable Mobility Centre, along with an electric vehicle charging station and a motorhome stopover area. During opening hours, the Centre also provides basic bicycle repair services.
For cave visits, we recommend suitable footwear and warm clothing, as the temperature inside the caves remains around 10°C throughout the year.
