By Boat into Planina Cave

A boat tour through Planina Cave is one of the most unique and authentic karst experiences in the Postojna region and beyond. The cave is renowned for the spectacular underground confluence of the Pivka and Rak rivers, which join inside the cave to form the Unica River, a natural phenomenon that is exceptionally rare in Europe. This guided adventure takes visitors into the deeper, less accessible parts of the cave, revealing the vast underground world, subterranean lakes, magnificent stalagmites and stalactites, and the remarkable geomorphology of the karst landscape. If you’re lucky, you may even spot the famous olm in its natural habitat.

Part of the route is explored on foot, while the rest is travelled by boat along the underground river, adding a true sense of adventure to the experience. As the tour is physically demanding, it is recommended for visitors in good physical condition and is operated only when water levels are suitable.

Advance booking is essential. Group sizes are limited to ensure a tour in a smaller group, and all tours are led by experienced cave guides.
