Continue exploring the Postojna region.
From the Church of St Margaret in Planina, carefully cross the main road and continue along the road across the meadow. The trail soon enters the forest, where you’ll see signs for Planinska Gora. Continue uphill along the cart track before following the trail markers left onto a footpath that climbs gently. At the next junction, continue straight along the wider forest track. The trail ascends at a moderate gradient, passing numerous pilgrimage markers, small chapels, and wayside crosses. After joining the trail from the quarry, continue uphill and keep right. Within a few minutes you’ll reach the Church of St Mary, which was built in 1657.
Continue past the church and, after a few minutes, turn right onto a cart track leading towards Grmada and its wide, grassy slopes. Soon you’ll reach a viewpoint overlooking the Planina Polje. Depending on the season and weather conditions, the polje may be completely dry or covered by water, which makes every visit a unique experience. Near the viewpoint, at the edge of the forest, you’ll be led by an unmarked mountain path which branches sharply to the right. You can follow it for a few minutes to reach the forest on the summit of Grmada.
- Sturdy hiking footwear is recommended, and be sure to bring snacks and enough fluid, as there are no mountain huts or restaurants on Grmada and in its immediate surroundings.
- If you drove to the starting point, parking is available in front of the Church of St Margaret in Planina.
