Vivarium at Postojna Cave Park

Located in the Passage of new signatures, just 50 metres from the entrance to Postojna Cave, the Vivarium offers a fascinating glimpse into the hidden underground world. It showcases part of the cave’s remarkable fauna, whose inhabitants have adapted over thousands of years to life in darkness, constant humidity, and limited food resources. Postojna Cave is home to more than 150 animal species, including the olm (Proteus anguinus), the world-famous cave resident that has become the symbol of Postojna Cave.

The Vivarium is divided into two sections: a research area dedicated to scientific work and an exhibition area where visitors can learn about the basics of karstology and speleobiology while discovering some of the cave’s most characteristic animal species. It is the perfect complement to a visit to the cave for anyone wishing to gain a deeper understanding of the underground world.

The Vivarium is open according to the Postojna Cave tour schedule. Visits are self-guided, allowing you to explore the exhibition at your own pace.
