Via Dinarica

In Slovenia, where the Via Dinarica begins, the trail traverses the Green Karst, climbing Mount Nanos and Mount Snežnik before descending to intermittent lakes and inviting hikers to explore magnificent caves, impressive castles, and welcoming mountain huts.

The Slovenian section is 159 kilometres long and divided into seven stages. On the very first day, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views from Mount Nanos. But that is just the beginning. A few days later, the summit of Mount Snežnik offers an unforgettable 360-degree panorama. Between the two lie just the right balance of climbs and descents down the rocky karst paths as well as soft lowland meadows that provide relief under the feet. The trail continually surprises with the living wonders of the karst landscape. Disappearing rivers and lakes that transform into flower-filled meadows in summer, natural bridges, and world-famous caves all invite you to pause and explore. Along the way, you’ll discover old gardens steeped in local stories, while the vast surrounding forests offer the peace and solitude of unspoilt wilderness. From the summit of Mount Snežnik, you’ll even be able to glimpse the final stage of this extraordinary trail.
