Inside, visitors can admire an oil painting of Our Lady of Sorrows as well as fragments of Gothic frescoes, including scenes depicting the Adoration of the Magi. The church is one of Predjama’s cultural treasures, complementing a visit to the famous Predjama Castle while offering insight into the village’s history, art, and spiritual life.
Did You Know? According to local legend, the remains of the knight Erasmus of Predjama rest beneath the linden tree beside the church. The tree is said to have been planted by his beloved as a symbol of eternal life. Despite centuries of storms and changing times, the majestic linden still stands today. In Slovenia, linden trees have long been regarded as sacred and were traditionally planted in village centres and beside churches and castles, where many of the community’s most important gatherings and events took place.
